We want to thank everyone who contributed to the Poppy Fund Campaign. As mentioned in the Cape Breton Post, the RCL Branch 126 Westside (Westmount) had a balance of approx. $12,850 at the end of September. Despite the construction on Kings Rd in Sydney River, our commercial partners made close to $10, 820. After this year’s expenses, we now have close to $19,540 in the Fund. Those commercial partners included: The Atlantic Superstore, Needs (Coxheath), The Coop, Noelle’s, My Cape Breton Home, Marty’s, and the Shoppers Drug Mart in Sydney River. We are humbled by your generosity and the obvious support to the Veterans and to our branch. THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH!!

*The Royal Canadian Legion achieves its 100th birthday this year. As part of our celebrations, we are offering new members FREE membership for their first year. Prospective members must be 18 years or older. One may join online (https://portal.legion.ca/join), via phone (855-330-3344) or at Branch 126 Westside on Midgley Rd, Westmount during normal bar hours.*

The next “last Thursday of the month” dinner will be on FEBRUARY 26TH between 4-6PM. Stuffed Chicken Breasts. Cost remains $15 each between 4-6PM. Eat in or take out! Please contact Allan (902-577-5653) or Clara (902-593-2132). We accidentally shorted some prospective diners in January. Tickets can no longer be sold at the door – our “chef” requires a head count in advance.

There will be another cooking class for the kids in February. Times remain the same: 9-11AM, but the date and menu are being worked out. There will be no charge for the children; adults are requested to make a donation.

The next monthly meeting will be on MARCH 3RD. The Executive meeting will be at 6:30PM and the general meeting will follow shortly there after. As always, the public and those interested in joining are welcome.

St. PATRICK’S DAY Dance on MARCH 14TH. Full Circle will provide the music to move your feet by starting at 9PM until 1AM. Tickets are $15 each, on sale at the bar or at the door.

There will be a “last Thursday dinner on MARCH 26TH. Menu is being worked out. Times (4-6PM), cost ($15), points of contact (Allan Bragg & Clara) remain the same. Eat in or take out!

We’re planning on a golf tournament at Alderdale Greens on Rudderham Rd, Point Edwards.

Tentative date is August 29th. Cost TBA. There will be a small repast following the tournament.

$500 Scholarship for students at Riverview High School who meet these criteria.

Child, grand-child or great grandchild of a currently serving service member or ex-service member. The uniformed services include: RCMP, the Canadian Forces (regular or reserve), and the Merchant Navy.

The applicant must be enrolled in a post secondary school.

Cannot have already accepted a bursary from another legion branch.
